Atlus announces 3D Dot Game Heroes for PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system
ATLUS LINKS TO LEGENDS PAST, ANNOUNCES 3D DOT GAME HEROES™
FOR PlayStation®3 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Hey, who put game cubes in my PS3® system?

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- NOVEMBER 17, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today revealed that it has licensed the rights to your childhood memories. Pixels rule again in the ultimate retro action-adventure game 3D Dot Game Heroes™ for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, slated to land in North America on May 11, 2010.
"The 8- and 16-bit classics many gamers cut their teeth on are magical, down to their blocky sprites and elegantly simple gameplay," mused Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, while twirling his rattail and wearing a poorly coordinated denim-on-denim outfit. " 3D Dot Game Heroes captures all of that legendary charm and more, bringing classic visuals, familar sounds, and a grand sense of exploration and discovery into stunning next-gen realization, all the while giving countless winks and nudges to the fans those iconic games mean the most to. This is pure action-adventure gaming at its finest, a true love-letter to a time-honored genre," he added while putting baseball cards in the spokes of his 10-speed.
Dripping with old school charm, classic gaming pizzazz, and pure retro sexy, 3D Dot Game Heroes is the ultimate homage to the industry's golden era.
3D Dot Game Heroes is scheduled to release on May 11, 2010 with an MSRP of $39.99.
For more information, visit the game's official website: http://www.3DDotGameHeroes.com

About 3D Dot Game Heroes
A long, long time ago, the Dark King Onyx brought an age of darkness upon Dotnia Kingdom. Only by the bravery of a hero with a legendary sword was Onyx sealed in an orb, restoring peace to the world. But Fuelle, a powerful Dark Bishop, has stolen the orb, and with it, peace. Dotnia requires a hero once more! Can you live up to the legend?
Key Features- Ultimate retro love letter -- Seamlessly fusing new and old, the golden era of gaming is felt in every detail of this lovingly-crafted adventure. Eye-popping visuals capture the nostalgic charm of pixel graphics in cutting edge 3D. Simple, but deep action-adventure gameplay is a throwback to the 8-bit era. Veterans will find references and jokes that pay homage to the great games of yore.
- Awe and adventure live again -- Embark on the next generation of classic exploration and discovery in a grand story-based quest. A hero sets out to gain the power of the six sages and the six orbs that protected the kingdom of Dotnia, which now stands on the verge of destruction.
- Customize your hero -- When pixels are your building blocks, the possibilities are unlimited. Freely edit the look of your character, or design one completely from scratch, and then trade designs with friends via a compatible USB storage device. Your hero's blade is also upgradeable, letting you add length and width to create a sword that fills the whole screen!
3D Dot Game Heroes has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

All of Japan is clearly aiming to derail my budding career by spamming their NA RPG releases all at once.

Hm, heard about this game a while ago. Looks interesting/unique, but don't really know much about it (then again, I had heard nothing of Demon's Souls until you guys announced it...and I love it). If this game is more to appeal to those who played in the 8 and/or 16-bit era, well...that's definitely not me. I'll still be keeping my eye on this, because it is Atlus. Your acquisitions/games have rarely disappointed.

Holy crap! This is awesome! Why did I think this was a PSP game? A PS3 game for $40 at launch? I am buying this, hands down! Too bad it's going to be a long and gruesome wait.
Those loading screens alone sold it for me. Anything that makes obvious references to games of old, I buy...period! Not to mention the trailer is a clear Zelda homage (notice how I didn't say rip-off!) which fills me with happiness.
Also, drat. Another game that I have to figure out how to get into my gold box.

important new question
first of all this will probably and most likely be my favorite game on ps3. but when looking at screenshots of the game i noticed something that caught my attention.at the bottom right corner of the screen is hilighted buttons
l1 map r1 guard triangle menu and square dash. i dont know if its going to be part of the final product or any reason but what are the chances of atlus putting a toggle on or off setting to hide that box? im not saying it in a complaining way but why would we need it after the first 5 minutes of playing and haaving there for the rest of the game, kinda like in metal gear solid four like how snake got near a wall and a mini context sensitive snake appeared indicating to press the triangle button. me and my friends were talking about this saying how it kind of takes you away from the game just a bit and how ( i wouldnt say issue) this thing is not talked about between gamers and if developers take into consideration but a on off setting. not that i would throw a fit if it stayed there permantly but id just say to myself why

Whoa, man. Long story short:
You can toggle that HUD on or off from the pause menu.

So excited for this game.
The only thing that bugs me about the design, is the abundance of giant screen-engulfing swords. I kind of like the small, Zelda-style swords. Having a giant sword would be kind of funny, if only for a small amount of time (perhaps during a certain quest). But from the look of things, it seems as if giant swords is the name of the game.
I wonder if they are optional? I'd like to play this game like it's the 1980s again. Giant swords seem like they'd make the game too easy.

I just started playing, and it's such a refreshing blast from the past. Awesome visuals, catchy music, funny references, and fluid gameplay will have me playing for a very long time.

If you market this correctly... it'll sell as many copies as Demon's Souls.

If you buy as many copies of this game as we sold of Demon's Souls, it'll sell as many copies as Demon's Souls.

For some silly reason I cant create a thread so I will post here.
Please consider releasing a level editor. Even if it costs $5.
Just make sure to add USB mouse support
Please tell me this game supports custom soundtracks
