suspicious accounts?
I've been going back and forth on whether to mention this or not, since I just recently became active again the past few days, but I see a few similar threads have been posted.
I have been watching the "Welcome to our newest member, whoever" thing at the bottom of the index and I have been watching what seem to be bots signing up to the forums. A person will create an account, add a link to a random website to their signature, and then sign out without posting anything.
The links are funny, in a way. They include:
A link to an asian dating service
A link to apartments for sale in Canada
A link to a medical website in Thailand
... and others just completely random like that. I mean, everyone has their own tastes, you know? But most people creating accounts on a game website would normally add game-related content to their sigs.
And its odd that they all add a link to their sig before signing off. Without posting anything.
So I just wanted to ask, do you think there is a program automatically creating accounts on the forums?
Sorry if I am just being paranoid. I've been up for a while and am tired. I have been kind of watching the Atlus board as an excuse to not study...

Yeah, there is. They post semi-related nonsense occasionally, too.

Just spambots. I don't think there is much to worry about.

Yes, the forums already have the anti-spambot shields up, along with anti-spybot demons running around everywhere. I think we're fine...unless we encounter their Queen, at which point we'll need to bring in the big guns.

I think it's more of a cottage industry of real people signing up for accounts just to post premade spam messages.

This.
Spambots, as the internet populace knows it, is a myth.

I will never claim to envy the mods their position. Half an hour of looking at newest member always finds another 2-4 spambot accounts. Thankfully most don't po...you know, I'm not even going to say it. Why tempt fate? Why ask for trouble no one wants? Wish they'd bring real spam though. Would like some grilled spam with some hot sauce served on toasted bread with a slice of cheese melted on top. That would be rather nice right now.
