Catherine or Persona 5?
I realise not every Atlus fan is a Persona fan, or even a Megaten fan. I'm just curious to see what the results will be from a random sample of Atlus forum users. That is basically what these forums are for anyways aren't they?
The Question
If Atlus was to release one game this summer (between the two games, which would both be released in a completed state) which would you prefer: Catherine or Persona 5?

I will with out a doubt buy both (assuming Persona 5 is coming eventually), but if I HAD to choose one I would want them to release Persona 5.

I'm sorry. While I really am looking forward to Catherine very much, I'd much rather have a Persona 5. Goodness knows how amazing that game's going to be. And I'm not really good at puzzle games anyway.

I'd have to pick Persona 5 too. While I'm loving what I see of Catherine, you can't beat getting both the girls... and many more. ;D

Persona 5
But you know that's 100% bias. I haven't played Catherine yet aside from the demo whereas I spend a ridiculous amount of time with persona 4 (and also 3).

Yeah you're asking us if we want to see Catherine (a game that exists) or persona 5 ( a game that is not yet made and so can be as great as we want to imagine).
I would likely say for me, Persona 5, mostly because even if it had the same graphics as p4, even if it was on ps2, even if it was only as long as persona 4, i'd still love it despite not being HD. (and most likely it'd crawl into HD in SOME way).
See, if the game was on the conservative side of my expectations of the game, i'd love to play it. I won't even begin to say how nutty the potential game could be if I let my expectations run wild and crazy...

Catherine. The last thing I want is Persona to turn into a yearly game, rehashing concepts over and over again. Whenever they decide to make Persona 5, I hope it isn't anything like 3 and 4, in the same way 3 and 4 weren't anything like 1 and 2. I want it to grow, to evolve, and to surprise me, as that's why each era of the Persona series has been enjoyable.
Catherine represents something I've never played before, and as such, is easily one of the most interesting games this year by far. As much as I love the Persona games, I want to try this new, bizarre puzzle-horror like you wouldn't believe.

Can't see that as being so much an issue. ignoring p3p and converted portables aside... p3 and p4 were originally released around 2008... least if you count p3:fes. it's been 2 years+ since then... not exactly "yearly" releases...
though it would suck for Atlus to go that route, I doubt they would, especially on 7th gen consoles.

This, pretty much.
That and, as was also mentioned above, comparing a game that exists with a theoretical game that can be as awesome as we imagine it to be isn't really a valid or fair comparison to begin with.

Yup. I love P3/4, but I think its time for Atlus to move on. I want to see a new, exciting unique spin-off like P3 was and DDS was.
I hope P5 is the last Persona game Atlus makes.....Even though I'm scared it won't be. Recently Atlus has also announced they have possible future plans for Catherine.
Which feels really dumb to me because, as someone who played it:
Catherine does not need a sequel.

My thoughts exactly. I rather not see P5 at least for another 1-2 years. I would really hate if P5 ends up being a P3/P4 rehash. It would be great it if Atlus do something new and different with the formula just like P3 did something different from P1/P2. Besides I would much rather see SMT5 (assuming SJ is SMT4) or a new Devil Summoner game.

Well since I've played Catherine I suppose I'll have to go with that. Of course if they come out with Persona 5, I'll be buying it without a doubt.

Persona 5 (or virtually anything) over Catherine.
I absolutely hate climbing platformers, especially with puzzle elements.
I really hope Atlus doesn't abandon RPGs for combination of iPhone gameplay with lots of Anime cutscenes. I can almost expect them to release a game that's based on Angry Birds...

Persona 5 because we all know how much we want the story to revolve around high school drama and teen angst. Catherine's pretty and all and showcases their new stuff but we want the Persona 3 and 4 story with all the charcters we knew and loved with a new color pallet swap. We want Persona to be the new madden of RPGs.

Ya, sorry about that Onion. My biggest problem is we're talking about a game that does exist and is getting a release and a game that hasn't even been announced. I could understand if the question was Catherine or Persona 2 as both games exist and are available but we're not talking about that. It's a choice between what does and doesn't exist. I find it insulting anyone would think the game that has nothing going for it so far beyond the previous titles in its franchise is better then to bother with something new. People whine all the time about sequels and how they are killing the industry. Well here we have it. Given the option of something new or another sequel, we'd rather have more of the same sight unseen.

Pshaw, Fuyukaze. What's really irritating is following Atlus's Facebook updates. Every single announcement soon gets a "Stop wasting your time doing other crap and give us P5 already" comment--and people LIKE it! Now that's a sense of entitlement.

Don't feel too bad, Facebook is already way worse than GameFAQs could ever be at this point (and that's saying something). Just never take anything you see on Facebook seriously, and you'll be fine.

They should learn that you guys can't decide which game is being made
besides, the next SMT game is not Persona related (Devil Survivor 2) so it's not like they will make P5 soon

Catherine. First HD Persona spinoff game for Atlus. Plus its kinda new whereas I would suspect at the very least the new Persona would keep many elements of the prequels.

Somehow, I feel Catherine is more like Atlus' way to test the in-house PS360 development waters; with that in mind, think of Catherine as a gauge for a potential Persona 5, similar to how Konami treats Suikoden Tierkreis as a gauge for a potential Suikoden VI.

Yeah if Catherine was them testing the waters with a new medium, then there is a great potential plethora of Atlus to come, because it means they have invested in a graphical engine to work with. After Catherine they can pop Persona 5, SMT games, or well.. just about anything.
Considering some of the new abilities Tri-Ace has shown possible on the current gen consoles in terms of physically based lighting rendered in realtime, I think these consoles still have a fair amount of life in them, even if we see the next xbox and nintendo HD systems hit in the next 18 months. So if Atlus holds onto this gen for at least 3 to 4 years they should do fine.
I still hold for p5, but I always did.

Yeah Yukichin, but i'm sure the engine will work fine with it. Most modern day games run on very versatile engines, for example the over-used 'Unreal Engine' has been used on all sorts of games.
