Default If I didn't like persona 1 psp, should i play this game?

Hi. I liked every game branded with SMT that I have played(persona 3/4, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey) except for the psp remake of persona 1. I got bored of it's battle system really fast, and stopped playing it.

From a gameplay point of view, does persona 2 play just like persona 1? If I hated persona 1 what are the odds i'll like this game, or should I just avoid it?

Persona 2 uses a different combat system than P1. The biggest change being that the grids are gone.

The grids being that whole wierd akward positional system right? like Spell will hit 2 and 3 squares infront of caster but no where else.
I think that was probably the main thing about persona 1 that was unfun for me. it all felt very convoluted having to place all your guys in a wierd way, not even knowing where the enemies will be placed next battle anyway to make smart descisions and all that.

If persona 2 got rid of that, sounds great.
Thanks man.

Persona 1 was a turn-based RPG, but you needed to position your characters on the battle field before random battles. That determined where they could and couldn't hit the enemies.

I wanna know this too~ Persona 1 for the PSP was the only game I played from Persona, and I didn't like it, and I don't want it to be a repeat of how Final Fantasy was for me (played one game, figured the whole series sucked since that particular one did, but I was wrong), so it'd be good to know.

What system is it for, though? I can't remember.

the best series of persona imo is persona 3 portable. persona 4 as a close second.
although i never played persona 1 or 2 i can probably say that its not a good idea to judge the whole series on the first game. try persona 3 (the portable version) and then decide.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying.
Persona 2: Innocent Sin will be for PSP. Persona 3 and 4 are for PS2, though there's a PSP version of 3 available.

The gameplay of 1 is quite different from that of 2, 3, and 4. My favourite is 4, which has a similar battle system to 3, both of which are rather traditional turn-based actions.

Wouldn't worry about it with P2. P1 had a battle system unique to itself (which a lot of people didn't like), but it has developed consistently with time. P2 isn't as familiar as P3 and P4, but it's a lot more acceptable then P1.

Besides, it's a Persona game. Don't worry about anything because it's going to be phenomenal.

Kill yourself with fire......

Kidding aside you should tough it out and at least beat Deva Yuga ending. The grid based line up sucks, but overall the game is good, ableit the new soundtrack makes me want to insert sharpened pencils in my ears.

P2 IS and EP are leaps and bounds better and have a more streamlined battle system. The Persona system is also way better seeing as you can stockpile cards and not have limited demons for fusions. You should play through P1 for the story as there are references and characters from the first game who show up in both P2 games though.

The way I see it the original Persona was a game tied down to its original roots while Persona 2 is what the series aspired to be since it adds new mechanics and is not in first person plus the story is really good.

The original Persona was more like...a sequel to Shin Megami Tensei if... Persona 2 definitely took on more of a life of its own, plus the battle system and overall presentation was far more refined.

I liked the original Persona just fine I guess, but there's no denying that Innocent Sin is as good as the series gets.

Yes, this is directed towards you P3/P4toids: Persona 2 is better. Deal with it.

Sorry, dude, but your opinion =/= fact. I played some of the fan translation, and maybe the PSP version can change my mind, but so far I vastly prefer P4's combat, the fact that there aren't random battles, and the story presentation (because IS's, for some reason, feels incredibly disjointed to me).

This is weird because I felt the calender and S link system did just this for p4 and p3. Especially p4 as there was an actual main story there.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original Persona, (still haven't played the psp version) but I loved both P2 games. Honestly I don't think how a person felt about the first game will have much of any impact on their enjoying IS or EP.

I haven't played IS but have played Eternal Punishment and it's much better than Persona 1. The gameplay flows a lot better and I love the characters much better. Maya is awesome <3

Time for more truth. The Persona PSP soundtrack is better than the PS1 version's soundtrack.
