how old does a thread/topic need to be for it to be considered necroposting?

I don't think that has ever been defined to an exact number or anything. I'm not of a mindset that it should, either.
My initial reaction was just to use common sense. However, I realize that is asking a lot for some people (not you specifically; just a general reference).
The context and quality of what you're thinking of adding would be a major factor in this determination. For example, if you dug up a 3 month old thread about a game just to say something like "I agree" then that would be adding nothing significant and people might get on your case for it. Now, same thread but you wanted to add release date info or a gameplay update, etc? That would definitely be considered legit by just about anyone. Does that help any?

well what was in my mind was more of a range or something like that. but time is not only the part of the issue. the content and quality of the post too. yeah. like you said.

i'd say it depends on the forums. some dont give a crap how long the thread is as long as it is on a certain time range.

I'd say it gets that flag if it's over 6 months old and cold.  But some would think 3-4 months .. I ferget what they officially think... |
