I'm not familiar with these "eguides". What do you get for 9.99$? Will you receive a PDF file of the guide or you have to consult the guide on the web, which is basically a long string of pictures of each page?

^Well, since there is a Persona 2: EP eGuide on Gamestop's website under the "Download" section section and it's 40 MB, I'd assume it's a download thing. However, the EP guide is by Prima, so....

It's on the web, it's just like reading a virtual novel, no PDF or download.

"What happens when you buy this eguide: After you have ordered, we'll manually verify your order and create your account sometime the same day, usually within hours, and we'll email you your password to access the guide. This guide requires the internet to access. It is not downloadable."

it's really hard to read in the window view, it is better viewed (and easier to read) in full screen mode.

They also fixed some of the mistakes that were present in the printed one, and are able to fix others if they are found, that is what is nice about their e-guides...

No PDF (or PostScript) of the original guide (with original vectorial data, not scanned bitmap image of each page, I want what they sent to the printer exactly), no money. Yes, I'm extremely stingy on that.

It's the same guide that was printed, you can just only view it online, and they fixed mistakes...

I am completely against this e-guide thing. I contacted Prima Publishing regarding their Suikoden Tierkreis guide a few weeks ago. Surprisingly, a PERSON emailed me back and we had a "back and forth" for a couple of emails. They charge 19.99 for their E-guide and I had to let them know how unacceptable that is. I also don't feel that E-Guides are worth your money due to the limitations due to it be stuck on a PC. The Prima E-guides are downloadable but locked to the PC you download them to. To have the guide printed costs between 80-90 dollars, so that's a little over $100 for your printed guide. Double Jump's versions are even worse since it's net-only. If your internet goes out ~ good luck accessing your guide. I don't appreciate these formats at all, and I've spoken with both publishers about it. I don't think it'll change anything, but at least they heard me. I spoke directly with the Double-Jump guy over the phone, and as I said, emailed with the Prima Publishing Marketing guy.

You are aware it costs a lot of money to print guides. Doublejump hasn't been printing guides for new games lately because not enough stores show an interest in buying them.
They have started doing a Print-On-Demand service for the Prinny and Rune Factory Frontier Guides, while it is a lot more expensive, it's all a small publisher like them can afford to do.
Also, I do complain to Prima because they overcharge for the e-guides, anything over $9.99 is just too much.

Well aware. I know all the reasons why these companies would make this sort of change, I just don't support it. I also wanted them to know that I'm not the only one who would rather have a print version. As I said to one of Prima's marketing fellows: If you want to charge for a limited access copy of a strategy guide, that's fine, but know that 19.99 is far too much, and I can wait a month, run over to gamefaqs.com, and print up a guide that covers everything yours will ~ FOR FREE.

Have you ever been to either of their forums.
People complain there about wanting printed guides.
At Doublejump, that's why djpubba(who owns DJ) started trying the POD guides, he even went through hell to get the printed Rune Factory guide after the first company F***ed up and blamed him for it.

Never visited their forums. I hope he prints something worthwhile, though. I have a $6.50 credit with them I'd like to spend. The last guide I saw a print version for was Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, which was severely disappointing. I'm prayin' for a Devil Survivor guide or something.

So let see if I get you right you pay 9.99 for a copy that is only seen online. So if they take down the guide after time if no one use it to make room for new ones you lose 9.99 of your money. Has any one picked one up yet and if so how had is it to get a your pass word back if you miss place it. I don't like the hole idear of this.

While I'm generally not a fan of buying things online, I have bought a couple of DJ's eGuides. Generally, if you have a forum account there, you can ask them to link the guides to your existing account. In order to reset the password, you either answer the question you setup or have a password reset link emailed to your registered email address.
The only reason I've supported their eGuides is because I wanted to see guides for most of the games they've released these guides for, and this is the only way they could do the guides.
I own most of their print guides, though the only print-on-demand guide I own is the original Disgaea guide. For people that didn't get the guides when they were available, the eGuides for games like Nocturne are well worth it, and DJ has been extremely responsive in updating the eGuides when errors are found.
Of course, I also support free online guides, especially strategywiki

I know it's a bit late, but some of the people on the DJ forum have mentioned that they get their older guides (the ones with the heavier page stock tended to break their bindings, at least for some people) ring bound at Kinkos.

Check their forums and read through the errata board for the print guide. They should have fixed everything in the eGuide. They do the same with their others, but the biggest draw of this particular guide is that the print version generally runs well above retail because it's been out of print for a long time (and is a very good guide).

Disregard that. At first it looked like you could "preview" the whole guide without buying it, but now most of it is locked and there's no option to buy a full version.
