DDS1 Optional Bosses - are the grids worth it?
I'm on the cusp of finishing DDS1 (after being sidetrack from it for months because of that Dell job) and I've just been grinding away grids. I'm just curious how meaningful the added grids and rings from boss fights are to DDS2. I saw some of them just void Hama and Mudu stuff, and in DDS, those spells aren't fatal, they just take a fraction of HP.
Unless they are fatal in DDS2, I don't know yet.
I also heard the Demi-Fiend has a ring, too, but perhaps I'll reserve that for another time since I'd have to do it on a New Cycle file anyway.

Depends on how you intend on tackling DDS2.
If you're gonna play the Normal game, then I'd say it doesn't matter. The extra rings, stats, and money is nice, but it's not really necessary. If, however, you intend on putting it on Hard right off the bat, then those little things can be very helpful, especially early on.
For the record, I finished all of the optional bosses I could in the first playthrough and did DDS2 on Hard. I wasn't keen on playing a consecutive second, more boring runthrough to take on the Demi-fiend.

Well, I decided just to save that stuff for a second run and going after the Demi-Fiend after I was done with the rest of them. Turns out he doesn't give a reward, I just want to kick his ass at some point.
Was a little let down the skills didn't carry over.
"Why are we weaker in this world?"
I know why they did it (so people who didn't play the first one wouldn't feel screwed), I just never like it when an RPG series continues with a familiar set of character and you're forced to start from scratch.
Its really only something I let Samus Aran, Megaman or a Castlevania character get away with. And Raidou, he got his demons back at least

Well, it makes sense in the gameworld that they lost their powers, but you kinda find out about that later in the game when they explain the whole "data" concept and how it works.
Hama is 1/2 and 3/4 HP, Mudo is still fatal. But it's not as important to protect against it constantly because not as many enemies use it and there isn't anybody whose death = game over. It's usually more than enough to ahve one party member carry around a death shield skill.
As for the special rings, the only one I would say is important to go after is the Hee-Ho ring you get for beating King Frost in DDS1. It's really easy to get and prevents Ice Damage, which is really nice(Especially endgame).

The Heeho ring is all I got. Well, Good to know its useful, I keep it.
Also, I am getting a heavy Metal Gear vibe from DDS2 Probably doesn't help there's a vendor named Johnny who looks like he's straight out of MGS. That and the whole data, AI and implanting it in soldiers to become perfect soldiers thing.

I'm playing a new cycle in DDS1, but got bored realy fast. Will I need to beat the extra bosses again for the extra items in DDS2?
I was low on memory so I had to use the same save for the new playtrh. I was only trying to guarantee that i anwserd correctly the dialogs and thought later about it -.-

You have to load a "CLEAR" status file that is saved right after the credits for your bonuses to properly transfer to DDS2. If you have one with all of the bosses killed then yeah it's fine. Otherwise you will need to kill them again in your 2nd play (as well as make the proper dialogue choices in your CURRENT PLAY for the DDS2 bonus skill/character if you want those) and create a new save file after the credits.
The ring for the ultimate DDS1 boss (Demi-fiend) really isn't even good or useful (and you get it quite late into DDS2) so if you aren't a masochist or completionist you can just skip that.
The all mantra maxed bonus of +5 to all stats is pretty good though, as it's equivalent to just over 8 level ups worth of stats.

Thanks!
I'll take a break from it then =/
No patience to play it all again now. I'll make sure to clear some memory next time and I don't want to be curious about the extras and have to play both again some day without really wanting.

Anyone actually finish the demi fiend in the second play?
I tried for a long time, eventually had to sell the game for financial reasons.
My wife managed to take him out, he just refused to die for me.

I pulled it off...once. It was a battle more based on luck (your real life luck)than anything. And since my luck stat in real life is relatively low, it took 24 hours to pull it off.

Mine might be even lower, though I didn't keep an accurate count on hours of trying so it's hard to say.
My wife's seems to be relatively, though she doubts it sometimes.
Guess it kinda balances out.
