Any recommendations to other rpgs?
I'm new here, but I figured if anyone would know, it would be the atlus forum. I like the gameplay and ideas of the smt and persona games. But I just feel really guilty and insecure while playing them due to the option of "going against God" and the way some of the Hebrew figures are portrayed.
However, I like atlus as a company and would like to support their other games. Are there any games that are similar in gameplay to the smt and persona games that atlus makes or publishes?

Already got that and beat it. I enjoyed it a great deal which is one of the reasons I'm looking for more from Atlus.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier for the DS is pretty fun, but has a lot of sexual humor behind it. Maybe Demon Souls for the PS3, but I cannot really say since I only played a little of it. There is also Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja and Knights in the Nightmare. Other then that, I am not really sure. The problem is though that there are a lot of Atlus's RPGs come from the SMT series and they have a very strong bases in religious icons/iconography. Hopefully you can find a game that suits your preference. Also, I voted up this thread so more people read it.

Dragon Warrior.
It's revolutionary.

Oh, well other than Atlus RPGs, I can recommend a bunch. Definitely Earthbound and Dragon Warrior as said above, Chrono Trigger, The World Ends With You, Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy 4 and 6, Shining Force 1 and 2, Mother 3, Fire Emblem series, Xenogears, and Vagrant Story.

Thanks for that.
While I know about other RPGs from other companies, I do particularly like Atlus, hence why I try to support them by buying new when I find a game they create that I might enjoy. I'm also well aware that many of their games come the SMT series. Like I said, I enjoy the gameplay style, but not the whole "going against God" options and such that they have since I'm a Christian myself.
Thanks for the other suggestions though. I'll look into them.

What on earth.
Well, there's always the Dept. Heaven series. Riviera, Yggdra Union, Knights in the Nightmare. They are all awesome games, and they should be ok unless you're also offended by Norseish mythology.

Not to offend your beliefs, but maybe this perspective would make you feel better about playing:
It never made sense to me to take any of the entities in the series as literally God, as they seem really lacking in omnipotence, and not that good at creating the universe if they ended up making a high schooler powerful enough to ruin their divine plan. I've taken them as beings powerful enough to have posed as God and with some motive to do so (either malevolence or a sense of duty seem reasonable to me).
If that perspective makes you feel comfortable playing, enjoy. Perhaps the games can inspire you to see your faith in new ways.
As for other games, Xenosaga also has unique, deep, and challenging battlesystems, and a good story overall. There is a lot of Christian symbolism, but I don't believe anything that would be offensive.
Good luck!

Of note, Persona 3 is about Greek/Roman gods while Persona 4 involves Japanese gods (with Hebrew figures being optional Personas in both), and God is a pretty nice guy in Devil Survivor while his angels are the ones being a little mean (though not without their nice guys)...

I've always been a fan of the very first Grandia game, but that's probably because it was one of my first RPGs and as a small child I was absolutely in love with it.
Otherwise, there are quite a few good rpgs mentioned already.

Eh, I'm not sure. I mean, they actually name God in these games as YHVH, which is alluding pretty heavily towards the Hebrew God.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Hadn't heard of some of them, but I'll try to check out as many as I can.

Why yes it is. Also, use the spoiler tags please. And by tags, I mean spoiler and /spoiler in brackets, like this:
something
Take the / out of the first one to get it to work, so it'll end up like this: something

In the world of SMT, they personify YHVH as they see fit; which happens to be controlling and almost genocidal at times. It's in no way meant to reflect on actual religions. (Well, their followers, maybe. Messians can be downright psychopathic.)

Ok. Sorry about that. Already edited.
Anyway, I'm a bit unsure on Xenosaga. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Here are some nice games:
Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica (rebellion against Goddess)
Final Fantasy X-2 (communist, anti-church)
Luminous Arc (pro-witches, anti-church)
Riviera: The Promised Land (pro-witches, anti-church)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (anti-God, angel-like enemies)
Xenosaga Episode III (anti-God, horsemen battles)
Better games include Growlanser Generations and Growlanser: Heritage of War.

Fighting against God/Fate is an extremely common RPG theme. If I had a nickel for every game where they overcome some kind of "god" and go on like "we humans can do it ourselves! we don't need you! we'll make our own future!" I think I wouldn't need to work for the rest of my life. If you don't want to be offended stay away from Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Grandia 2 just to name a few. Xenosaga sucks anyway IMO so don't play it. I'd say not to let it bother you so much though.

If you have a PS2 I recommend getting Growlanser Generations. It's 2 games in 1 and it's only $15 on Gamestop.com It has great SRPG battles and nice party relationship / romance system. If you have a PSP, be sure to pre-order the recently announced Growlanser: Wayfarer of time coming out in July!
But, you do realize that "it's just a game" right? I seriously mean no offense, but do you honestly think you will be struck down with lightning or otherwise smitten for enjoying a game, or any work of fiction that reinterprets religious works? Do you have any problem killing characters in a game as long as they're not biblical figures? If not, why feel guilty about enjoying a game you apparently liked? Pretty much every RPG or Action game involves killing but that hardly makes gamers serial killers.

Dark Spire was phenomenal, if you enjoy a certain degree of difficulty. The Breath of Fire series was also quite good, until they started trying too hard (although many people disagree with me about them). Suikoden games are excellent, as well. Even the precursors to Demons/Dark Souls, the King's Field games, were excellent if you could get past slightly clunky game mechanics.
I'll second the suggestion for Xenogears, as it was one of the first RPGs that I literally felt a part of.
Also, forgive me, but aside from SMT II, isn't it ALWAYS a choice to rebel against God? Why wouldn't a Christian choose the Messiah routes, were they to play any other SMT games?
