Default One Of my hopes for this game

i hope that there are less of those damn save civilian type missions
they drove me bonkers in the first one
i am one of those guys who just really just either wanted to let kaido do
his thing or help him kill everyone not save them

i really hate saving people to begin with it was infuriating to have to do it so
many times

so to those who have played the japanese version

is this issue rectified ?

Is one of the things that i love in strategy games they make them different from RPGs where you must only kill enemies and thats off. Let the save the civilians missions (Growlanser are particularly good at this).

What specifically about saving NPCs don't you like? Do you find it too difficult / frustrating?

Only thing I've heard about this game from people who have played it was that it gets quite hard towards the end of the game.

@daveyd i dislike the frequency at which it occurs and that there never
seems to be a good reason your characters are doing so besides hey saving
a life is great lets do it and i hate how if even one civilian dies not one team
one human being you have lost i also wish there was a choice to play your own
main character versus the goody two shoes bleeding heart imbecile
we already have three of those (midori yuzu atsuro)

when human beings attacked kaido and honda

i wanted to help kill them i hate stupid people

and when they attacked midori

i either wanted her to finally die or all of these civilians to be killed by keisuke or
something

in short their human life is valuable even if they are complete assholes
routine also irritated me i want some of the trash to die
pretty please demonkind

The entire point of Devil Survivor was to keep all the humans alive and avoid letting the demons spread. If you were able to kill the humans, that would have spread more panic and dramatically decreased the chances of ending the lockdown.

Ah. I haven't actually played a Devil Survivor game yet but I just got a 3DS and DS: Overclocked today

Well, I like the way this sort of thing is handled in Growlanser games. In the battles where you can save NPCs / civilians it is entirely optional (if you don't save them that may affect which story branch / ending you get but you do NOT get a game over for failing to save them. So if you want to play Growlanser as a ruthless warrior who only cares about crushing his opponent you have the option. You even had the the option to turn against some of your former allies in Growlanser 2.

Anyway, I'm going to go fire up DS: Overclocked.

The only thing I disliked about those missions was how every NPC you tried to save seemed to not have the good sense to run AWAY from the demons- in fact, they would often do the exact opposite.

Also I suddenly have an urge to play these Growlanser games.

Dont worry in Growlanser the npcs have they survival instinct intact so they run away from enemies. If you want to play Growlanser i warn you that is not like most Strategy games (including DS 2) so watch some youtube videos (put Growlanser generations gameplay) because if you liked DS 1 or 2 there is a 50% chance you love it or hate it but im sure you will love it.

Already looked up some videos- it looks pretty interesting. I'm gonna look into getting either the first one or Generations.

Also, I was under the impression you could do this to a certain degree. I recall there being several points where you could select dialogue in which your main character could be a battle-obsessed, blood thirsty fighter rather than good.

And although I haven't beat DS1 yet...isn't this basically what Naoya's route is for, or any other character with evil intentions (because I'm not foolish enough to think that Naoya could be the only evil character, assuming he really is at all)?

And on a semi-unrelated note, going to pick up my copy of DS2 in a bit, yaaaaaay.

Spoilers about Naoya's route.
Naoya's seems to be much more about freedom than evil, although he's a bit more power-hungry than I want him to be. I like this route's ideas better than any other one's so far, though; Yuzu's seems to be all about just running away, which I dislike, though I'm interested in going on YouTube to see it.

Yuzu's route is a lot better with the 8th day. You're given the chance to rectify the problems you created in the world, and the ending in general is different from what the actual ending screen after the 7th day tells you.

Ooh. I'll have to look at it on YouTube sometime.
