The cast isn't back for the Anime. The announcement from Sentai was before they even called any of the original cast, so it wasn't true at all.
|
Well, that's disappointing! I really love Sentai/ADV, too.
|
That being said, them announcing that means that they're at least going to attempt to get them back. It's possible they contacted the company the actors work for, but the actors themselves hadn't been contacted at that time.

Who dislike's Chie's voice acting? She had some of the best voicing in that game. The only problem really was that she sounded much older than a high school girl but that wasn't really that big of a deal.

This is really disappointing. I wonder if this means they have to do all of Chie's dialog again In P4: The Golden.

We don't know, and to be honest, I hope it; it'd be a massive waste of money for ATLUS if they did since her dialogue's mostly recorded already.

Just heard.
So disappointed. God damn it. The English VA is one of the best things about the P4 and one of the best dubs out there. Those characters and their voices are burnt into my brain.
Ye're probably going to give out to me for this, but I think I'll skip Arena if this really is the case. It's just not right.

So, to be clear, you'd rather we not release the game at all than not use an VA that's unavailable?

Chie and Teddies VA's made the original game. I would only barely care if any of the other characters VAs got replaced, but not those two.
For a fighting game, Ok, I can accept that. But if they butcher the Golden it'll be a different story.
If they HAVE to be replaced, at least try and get the Hiimdaisy Comic Dub actors, most people seemed to really like their mimickry of the characters voices.

I'd rather ye delay the game.
It's a big part of the experience (for me).
I'm not going to tell ye not to release (I'm in no position to be making remarks lie that), just that I won't support it.

And if actors have gone on hiatus/retired/died/decided not to do video games anymore?

Hmm. I'd ask ye to be transparent about it then.
Come out and clearly say something like
Quote:
We're very sorry, X isn't coming back because Y.
As for how this affects P4Golden, which I know a lot of you are anticipating well Z.
|
I'm a big fan of transparency. It respects all parties involved.
I understand it must be a very difficult process and ye can only try your best, but equally I hope ye can understand why this is a big deal to me.
I absolutely loved Atlus & Atlus USA's work in Persona 4. The dub cast is a highlight for me in all dubbed media, not just video games.

Except that in all but a few cases, we don't get to say who acted in our games. So we can't say "X isn't coming back" if we can't say X was in the first one.

Can ye not say something along the lines of:
Quote:
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to give ye a heads up.
Unfortunately the voices behind Chie & Teddie from the PS2 version of Persona 4 won't be returning for Persona 4 Arena (and I'm guessing Persona 4 Golden).
|
etc?
Anyway, OoM, I don't want to seem like I'm battering ye. Atlus are great.
Hey, even though I don't like the new Teddie, the new Chie may be better.
But even if she is, it's not really the point. It's a precedence that I don't want to condone (not exclusive to Atlus).

Oh boy....and people get mad when I say I dislike English dubs. I'm sure you all ~love~ recasts :/
Atlus, add dual audio. Please.

That's because, Blacksmoke, it seems that the voices are all you really care about in a game. I've no recollection of you being involved in any conversation without falling back to the voices thing. A one trick pony with a one track mind. People get tired of hearing the same damned thing over and over, especially when they've explained numerous times why the question or plea is entirely unanswerable.

That's because, Olethros, as far as concerns/issues go, voice acting is my primary one.
I love these games, except for when I have to experience the English voice acting. I'll not go over why that is because I'm sure you don't care.
And if you didn't notice, this is a thread primarily about voice acting. Why am I forbidden to talk about things that pertain to it?

I certainly cannot forbid you to do anything. I was explaining why it is that some of us get irritable when the same topics get brought up ad nauseum. You're free to do as you please much like I am to respond to it.

I love it. Olethros is seen with such authority that his mere suggestion is like the booming voice of the almighty. haha.
I tend to agree with Olethros, and in previous forums where you have cited dual VA I made comments very similar to his. You are free to soap box that one issue all you want, but eventually, after you've stood aloft and ranted and begged and screamed your reasons, no one will bother to listen to you and you'll be the lone guy on a crate in central park talking to the sky.
Though it is really good Blacksmoke is citing that it is the one and only concern/issue. I take that to mean of all the aspects of Atlus games, the only thing you're unhappy about is the english voice cast and opportunity for DA. This means you totally love the gameplay, characters, music, story, etc etc etc and that in itself is a high compliment to the company.
I doubt they would release the game with dual voice actors for a single role unless the newly recorded work was so spot on close it was almost spot on impossible to detect. Like, for example, the song Scar sang in the Lion King "Be Prepared" was actually partially sung by Jeremy Irons and partially sung by a professional voice actor... and yet all the times I watched the movie I'd NEVER noticed where the break is... That is what I'd anticipate for them to go with BOTH. Otherwise, I'd expect them to either re-acquire the original person, or get someone new and redub everything with that person. Otherwise it comes off as a half hearted, shoddy product. And I don't think Atlus JP would be keen to seeing Atlus USA soiling their name like that.

You know, that's a good question, but unfortunately it's one out of my pay grade. I'm not the guy who gets to decide what we say, I just have to be the one to say it and/or face the wrath of people who complain. Those of us who row the boat have to trust in the tillerman, etc.
It's really not fair. The PR department takes all the awesome physical fan mail and doesn't share it with the rest of us, while those of us who toil in the forum mines have to handle the dross of rage-fueled email and real-time flamewars.

Should I be insulted?
I assume you can/do pass this up the line though? (Where I can only imagine what is said about the "vocal minority"). Just letting them know that getting the "bad" news out gets people move on sooner.
I must say, that seems like a fairly transparent and honest post, so thank you OoM.

I second this! If you could pass it up, that might be fantastic; just having it announced--even if only on this forum--that character voices will be different could be a really nice heads-up.

Perhaps I do bring it up a lot, but like I say, it's an important issue to me. I try not to harp on it everyday. But if no one is going to listen (Atlus staff included) then I don't know how I feel about such a community/company.

Yep. The artwork and presentation especially.

Kind of different tangent. Whatever they do with the English voices, I'm sure it'll (by standards) be good (although recasting is never ideal). It's just that it isn't for me.

Awww. I'd send you some brownies, but they'd probably be eaten before they get to you.
Anyways, I was fine with original Chie's voice, but new Chie sounds a bit more hyper. Reminds me of the Japanese voice.
Of course, I'm judging this on the only line I've heard of Erin's rendition of the character which was YOUNEEDTOEATMOREMEAT but from that one line I can tell it's far more... 'genki' is the word I'm looking for.
edit: For the record, I think I might like the new voice quite a bit. I'm sore about Dave not returning though, I assume he won't be Katsuya in EP Portable either

I wouldn't judge it just yet; Yukiko sounded really off too, and it was still Amanda Winn-Lee.

At least now I know it isn't just me that thought that too. I haven't heard enough to say if it was bad or good, but it definitely seemed off.

It could be just a flubbed line; I've read that the trailer is actually showing their Shadow selves, so it could be that too.
Also, a tiny bit of news on the anime: Amanda Winn-Lee mentioned that she thought it was dead in the water, but there MIGHT be news to announce sometime.

Just watched some Move videos that were posted with English voices.
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/06/26...myriad-truths/
I know I said Yukiko sounded a little off before, but it seems about right now that I've heard more. Chie also sounds pretty decent I thought too. She certainly sounds more fitting now at least and for now I can give that a thumbs up.
"THE MAN SERIES: BROFIST" btw is the manliest sounding move in gaming.
