Nope, never will either. However I am capable of reading game reviews, watching videos, and talking to dudes who I know have played it. There is also the fact that a new leisure suit game came out last year which makes me wonder why it even needed a kickstarter. The series wasn't dead.
|
The new games are nothing like the old ones, they were not even developed by the same teams or even the same companies. It makes me sceptical of your claim to reading about the games as this is pretty common knowledge in the series.

I probably will at least get the Shadowrun HD game...and MAYBE the Leisure Suit Larry. Now, I might not be the biggest adventure game fan ever (they are too cryptic sometimes), but I'm really happy Al Lowe and his team pulled off the goal, because that dude always seemed super mega cool to me from any interview I read with him in it. :]

I'm not going to buy Leisure Suit Larry, I just don't like the art.
I will buy Shadowrun HD.

I'll definitely buy Shadowrun. I thought Shadowrun was one of the better kickstarters anyway. Even though Wasteland 2 appeals to me probably the most, and I've honestly only backed that, Shadowrun, and Star Drive *<- If this is a MoO 2 Clone in anyway it needs to take my bottlecaps.*
Anyway, as far as WD goes. I honestly wanted Dragon Force 2, and I don't think it's revolutionary at all. What's the big difference between this and Ogre Battle? Ogre Battle existed beforehand, and I'd argue they're roughly on par. Dragon Force is a lot like Brigandine, and I honestly enjoyed both of them at roughly the same time. However, I'd like to ask why ANYONE would think DF is original.
Honestly, I hate to make this kind of argument but the best strategy RPG that's like Dragon Force that I've played recently is Sengoku Rance. That game is quite close to being like Dragon Force, and honestly I thought they did a better job even if with asinine menus.
If Vic wants to bring over good games that he could get licensed, why not go for the smaller Japanese developers with proven track records? I've played quite a few really good Japanese PC games that were made by small developers like Battle Moon Wars.
In conclusion, this was most definitely the WRONG project to pick, I honestly would've given money for VC 3, or any of the other major j-rpg PSP titles we were not supposed to 'get'. Hell, I thought we were never going to get Growlanser 4 for PSP, but hurray for Atlus USA!

While I won't go into the full on rant I have on Victor Ireland, the rundown is that he had business practices some could only call dishonest, he didn't give credit where it was due (he still claims that he alone wrote scripts that Zach Meston, in fact, did. Editing does not mean writing, Vic),
|

To be fair though, how can you know whether that claim has any factual basis? Anyone can create a forum account, claim to have insider knowledge and spread rumors. Not saying it isn't true, but that sort of claim is impossible to validate.

Hi. Zach here.
As a freelancer, and later as an employee of Working Designs, I was the lead writer on:
Albert Odyssey
Alundra
Lunar: SSSC
Lunar 2: EBC
Magic Knight Rayearth
Vanguard Bandits
I also contributed small chunks of pop-culture-poisoned text to Thunder Force V, Arc the Lad Collection, and Silhouette Mirage.
Annnnnnd there were writers not named Victor Ireland involved with Lunar: EB, Dragon Force, and others.
There are several veterans of WD who can vouch for my version of events, but they probably don't want to get involved in the grudge that I continue to nurse more than a decade after leaving Vic's employ. Heh.

Can't say I blame you. I hold grudges on bosses who screwed me around 9 years ago now. Heck I have one who will cross the street to avoid me, if he sees me coming anyway.
Scary nonsense aside you have a great list of games there. Alundra is still my favorite WD game even if I couldn't tell you exactly why.

Good to see you here Zach. Wish you'd stick around (though why you'd want to is something I cannot answer).

I'd keep posting if I had anything to contribute other than a bunch of 10- to 15-year-old WD anecdotes that even I have a hard time caring about at this point. But I will continue to lurk!

Awseome. (And don't underestimate the value of the addition of simple logic, reason, and rationality you'd definitely bring )

Plus it's cool just to have some history around.

Dang man, what's with all this misunderstanding about LSL? Hopefully all of you who think its a game only for weirdos and pervs go out and read what the series really is about.
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/lsl/lsl.htm
The remake should be really cool, I dig the style they are going for in the remake, which is why its so damned tempting to actually get in the end.

I did like the one Larry game I played .. it had some nice humour (gotta admit it)
But it was predictable that the CoH project would fail.. I mean, I wouldn't mind if it came over, but I wouldn't throw my buckets for it.
It isn't even a "real" jrpg to promote the whole "we want jrpgs"-stuff with

Besides, you wouldn't need to know the first CoH if you knew what a dungeon crawler was

Well The Two Guys From Andromeda seem to have their kickstarter up and running pretty well.

I still own the original Sega CD Lunar guide, and consider it one of my favorites.
So for that and all those games you brought great writing to;
thanks.

I like this man, he's thinking smart. It also doesn't help that he's bringing Tomba to us, allowing us to play it in 6 days after years of it being away. Plus he's thinking about Lunar, I already love him.
