Also it's been known for quite a while that Golden wouldn't have dual audio. They even said it in one of the E3 interviews iirc. Not going to go post hunting, but I'm pretty sure they said it somewhere in one of these threads too.

To be fair, for some people it can be a significant departure if they're used to the JP voices from other P4-related media.

Yes I understand that, but some people get WAAAAAY too dramatic over it. Nerroth's disappointment was at least within reason.

I agree. Some people just complain about the English dub with the reason of ''makes my ears bleed''. To tell the truth, that's not a reason, it's just like a... I don't know how to say it... stereotype... I think... Like if all the English dubs sounded the same, in their case, bad. Either way, I know it's a preference but like Sevyne said, Nerroth's reason was understandable, when you're used to something it's natural to be attached to it.
In my case, I like both dubs, I like voice acting in general, it seems like a pretty cool job. I liked all SMT games with the English dub, some lines sure sounded akward... but it's still cool....... my favorite was Digital Devil Saga, you have to admit that was a very good dub.

Actually, I've got a question.
So far, I haven't seen a single Vita game with an instruction manual, despite Vita cases having the little clip that would hold one in. Because of that clip, it always seems like the manual is missing instead of nonexistent.
Will P4G include a printed manual?

Dunno about the NA version, but the JP one has a 1 page spread that unfolds that show buttons and such. that's really it in that empty spot. I think the manual is built into the game and you use the touchscreen to turn pages, though i could be thinking of another game. I do miss real manuals.

I do too, it's such a shame. And Persona 4 had such a lovely colourful one, with that fusion chart in the back and everything. It even smelled nice.

One thing I was wondering about the lack of dual audio (not least relative to the case with Arena); had the choice been made to offer both voice tracks in this release, would that have meant Atlus USA would have tried to put the same kind of region lock in play here are Arena is now getting?
As in, is the main reason why we aren't getting dual audio for Golden down to the risk of "reverse importation" back to Japan?
(Then again, since Arena seems to be getting dual text tracks, it would be less of an issue; and either way, I would find it unlikely that anyone in Japan who hasn't yet considered going out and buying the version of the game that is available to them already would really want to sit on their hands for several months just to wait for a reverse-export...)

It is a conundrum to me as well...
The main fallback reason is usually "licensing costs"... well ok, but the exact same Japanese voice actors got licensed for Arena.
The second reason is usually that the extra voices won't fit on the cart and/or that Atlus USA isn't going to code audio switching themselves, which I can totally understand.
But what stops them from, say, releasing download-only version with the JP voices intact? It's on the vita, so by default it has to go up on PSN anyways. Would it really be such a hassle to keep track of an additional online-only SKU?

Less lines?
I don't know how the exact payments are calculated (or how much stuff P4A has either), just guessing.

Speculating again, but Atlus JP could have a tight schedule, and thus doesn't have time/money for such.
Arc System Works probably made P4A with additional voice options in mind from the beginning, which could mean no significant additional work required.

I'm pretty sure everything can be eventually traced back to costs. I mean, if something would bring more profit or is beneficial to all parties, why not do it?

ATLUS has stated before that it can be a bit of a headache to get things done through PSN/XBLA. It takes a while for price drops to get certified, for one thing; I'm sure that getting an entirely new SKU for an already-existing game would be really hard and not at all worth the profits they would see, if they'd get anything.

P4G may have more dialogue, but less than half of it is actually voiced. Maybe it's about half with the new 50% more voice acting. But Arena, if it's anything like Blazblue, will not have a single line that isn't voice in it's supposed 30-40 hour story.
But I agree it's all baseless speculation, I have no idea how licensing costs are calculated.

Profit wise, the only marginal costs I see in this case is the licensing and whatever work is needed to leave the original audio intact (but if they can take it out, they can leave it in). I don't see a second version being different from how PSN games get put up with a version as just the base game and a version with all the DLC included.
I'll admit this is only my at-a-glance view of it. I don't have actual transparency into their business.
But heck, I'd pay a premium for the JP voices, if my lone stance means anything to Atlus.
