Default Does the story improve?

Okay, I am not trying to be judgmental here... However, I am about an hour into the game and I am feeling very underwhelmed by the story. This is one of the few Atlus games I missed on the PSP; so I was really looking forward to playing it. The combat is quite interesting and has kept me coming back so far.

However, playing as a wisp who fights only with guest characters is keeping me from really feeling invested in the plot. It seems like every story scene features random characters, who I know nothing about, wandering about and casually conversing. I am starting to feel a little frustrated. Basically, I just want to know if the story begins to move in a more focused direction... Or are the early scenes indicative of the story as a whole?

I just need a little encouragement; the way things are going, I don't think I will last more than another hour...

I can understand how you feel. Most people have this problem when they play this game.

Basically what they did was split the story up into pieces and shuffled them around like a deck of cards. If you were like me, When you finish the game you'll get the basic gist of the story but will be scratching your head on some of the details.

I'll try my best to explain, the segments that are not grayed/browned out usually depict what is happening in the present or what is happening off to the side, and they usually go in chronological order.

The segments that are not grayed/browned out usually depict what happened sometime(and ANYtime) in the past. These segments usually will say when the scene takes place; for example: "2 weeks before the princes wedding", "3 day after the theft of the kings soul" or "1 week before the cardinals downfall" etc. and they are usually NOT in chronological order.
