I think the opposite. You get huge amounts of Macca in this game. It only takes one or two battles to summon back a powerful demon, making it much more simple to assemble a very powerful team. In DS:O, the Compendium was a lot more troublesome because Macca was much more scarce. That makes sense, though, since the first wasn't built around a Compendium and the game might be a bit broken if it was that easy to get a powerful team.

Eh, by the time I got to the Final Day/8th Day, Macca was crazy-easy to come by in Overclocked.

The only thing I find difficult to collect is the right add-ons for the right situations. e.e
Anyways, beat my first run last night, and the ending (Yamato's) was pretty great. I loved seeing Yamato kill Ronaldo. It seemed justified, rather than just Yamato being a dick.
Doing my second run now -- going for good ol' red shirt's ending.

I'm not overleveled, either, although I'm considering it- I'm on Day 2 and the current battle I'm on is annihilating me, even though my characters and demons are on the same level or just below the enemy demon's levels. And then that leads back around to the grinding and battle length thing.
I can understand that, but grinding still isn't very necessary unless you mess up on fusing and you need another demon to make the right fusion and you're all out of macca.

As long as you don't cheap out on story battles and only kill leaders and only fight demons if you have to, then you'll get enough macca to build a new set of demons.

Also, you really aren't supposed to use auction demons unless you really need to for whatever reason. For the most part, you should only be buying them to fuse as soon as you get the option to fuse. Don't make the mistake a lot of people do and get attached to your demons. A demon that is good early on one day will probably not be good by the end of that day. And they definitely won't be good the next day. Pretty much every time your MC levels up a couple of new demons are unlocked, so try to update your team as soon as possible, and the game becomes a lot easier. Sure you have to micromanage your demons a lot, but it makes the game easier all around.

No spoilers

Been at it as much as possible since I got it last week. About to end day 5. So far I love the "Fate" system and think it's a great addition. I also enjoy the number of demons available, very nice. So far the bosses have been a challenge with little/no grinding required. Until I got to Day 5, then I spent about 5 hours grinding to get the best demons I could to beat him and then discovered he was a pushover with the right tactics (demon grinding seemed unnecessary after all).

Overall I'd tentatively give this game: A-

That may change once I beat it and see what the replay value is, but I assume it's quite good as usual.

I agree about the boss battle you're referring to. Day 2 and Day 4 were more challenging (and annoying), comparatively speaking. Jungo pretty much demolished said boss on his own with Berserk, passive phys buffs, and Blitzkrieg equipped.

Great sequel. A--

I'm up to day 7. I've chosen Daichi Route other than Ronaldo and Yamato. I have to say I love the Dragon/Human/Kishin team in this game, especially if your Dragon has plus command: range +4 as his racial skill.

This game rocks, i'm still suprised it hasn't been reviewed on any of the big gaming reviewing sites yet.

I would like to know if anybody knows when is this game going to launch on Europe. It's been months from the EEUU release and Europe stays with silence and TBA in places like wikipedia and gamefaqs.

PS: I would have opened a new thread but I just registered for asking this and I need 5 posts for being able to open threads, so...

Ghostlight, a company responsible for several other European releases of Atlus games, is publishing the European releases of both Devil Survivor Overclocked and Devil Survivor 2.

Well yes, the game is really great. They managed to improve a lot of gameplay aspects from the first one, making the game way easier (what is not exactly a bad thing to me). That Akashic Records/Serpentrione stuff is something really unique and interesting, I liked it.

But it had its flaws:

1.) The characters are not as good as the ones from the first game. Most of the are dumb or annoyingly generic, like Daichi (why does he complain about everything?), Airi (stupid tsundere), Jungo (hurr durr) and Keita (annoying rude boy). Yamato is a big scumbag, it was hard to sympathize with him, but I do not consider him to be a bad character overall. But of course, there were the good ones too. I really like Nitta, she is not annoying like Yuzu was in DeSu. Anguished One, Makoto and Joe are awesome characters too.

2.) The music. I had to admit: The soundtrack is not as repetitive as the one from the first game, but most of the tracks are very weak for a SMT game. The battle themes are above average, but the others were a big letdown compared with DeSu's OST, which was very good, besides being a bit repetitive.

3.) The "chaos" ending isn't as good as DeSu's.

Overall, I liked the first one the most, but DeSu2 is also a very good game. I really hope Atlus give continuity to the series, I would love to see a Devil Survivor 3D in the future.

I actually think the game is messing with me. I was going to post how the 50% hit rate for Anger Hit seemed totally off since I have played for hours and never had it not miss. (For my team, it works great for the enemies) But I just checked the the game first to make sure I had the skill name right had the dang skill connect four times in a row. I swear the game is laughing at me.

I've been to Tokyo a few times so I love how this series uses locations around the city, even if they are demon infested it is cool to see places I have been pop up. (That was one aspect, of oh so many, that I also enjoyed in The World Ends With You)

To anybody that has beat either of the SMT DS games without grinding I salute you. Me, not so much. I have had multiple occasions where I needed some macca (mostly in the early days) or needed a level or two to use a particular skill or use a particular demon. Fortunately, grinding feels like far less of a chore then other games because of skill cracking. I tend to become obsessed with unlocking every skill possible so I often find myself free battling even when I do not need to. Usually I will repeat every free battle opportunity until I have conclusively sucked every possible skill out of it. Then I go back to the main game. Doing that, I have generally found that I already have all the Macca and levels I need before I hit the nasty bits in the story line.

I am bonkers for good srpgs, so Devil Survivor is actually my favorite SMT line. Yep, I even like it better than Persona, oh the sacrilege.
