The Farewell thread (NA DeS servers shutting down)
So apparently Atlus will be closing the North American Demon's Souls servers this coming May 31st. I guess this is a thread to get people aware that the Atlus servers are shutting down, and to say farewell to the people who only own and do not plan to own the Black Phantom edition.

Well, can't blame them, but it is really sad for me.
I didn't know this game was so awesome... So I only got the game less than two months ago, but i still didn't finish it (and i was going to play more than one char for sure, maybe try a plat trophy, now i don't know), never got invaded, never invaded somebody else, never co-op'ed with anybody, so my experience is definetly not complete yet =( (and i already miss the blood and messages from other players, they help me so much....).
Will try to play as much as i can till May 31, but i'm depressed right now (seriously, don't laugh =( )

The end of an era, long live Demon's Souls!
Ironically, I loaded the game up last week for the first time in months and dropped my soul sign in 1-3, it only took six minutes to get summoned which surprised me. I had a great time as a party of three storming through the level and giving Penetrator a good beat down. I'll need to play some more over the next 6-7 weeks, lots of good memories from this game.

So once the servers go offline, is there any way to manage world tendencies? Is there at least some kind of patch that will alter the tendencies on holidays or something? I'll miss seeing all the notes, all the ways people die, and all the invasions, but I'm more worried about the fact that it's so damn hard to alter tendency.
Eh I suppose I should be more bothered by how difficult it will be to take on bosses that pretty much required I summon some friends. It's still possible to beat Demon's Souls single player, right?
Maybe I should go find that Chinese version I bought...

That figures, I've only had the game a few months, just haven't had time to play. Bought a new copy, not a used one.
I only played online, it was fun while it lasted.
I guess I'm off to begin Dark Souls, no point of playing now if I don't have countless hours.

Not to sound mocking, but the easiest way to see how it'll be when the servers go offline is to just sign out of the PSN and play.
Beating the game and getting all trophies are definitely possible.
I don't want a patch to alter tendencies on holidays. People can just cheat and change the time on their PS3. Manipulating tendencies is part of the challenge.
It'll simply be as if your PS3 wasn't connected to the internet.

I didn't PVP much, I actually suck at it, but I'll miss the funny messages left all around the game.
Anyway, the game can still be enjoyed offline, but it certainly won't be the same.
It would be cool if some community would take it into their hands to keep the server alive, but there's legal/contract issues with From Software involved, I suppose.

Ah...it's sad to hear the news. I recently bought a ps3 last month and demon's souls as well and it was very fun. I did get to co-op it with a friend 2 times but I wish I could have more time with it.
Having played Dark Souls on xbox 360 religiously, I wanted to see how Dark Souls became possible by playing the original Demon's Souls. I definitely had a blast with it.
Thank you Atlus for keeping the Demon's Souls server online long enough for me to finally get a ps3, the game, and being able to play it for a bit with a friend.

Sad I was hoping this would get a PSN release first.
Game is still great a single player so I won't give up hope.

Probably because the game ran its course. Hopefully in the future, when all Demon's Souls servers are down, we'll see someone willing enough to get a dedicated independent server up, similar to Schthack.

You can still enjoy it in single player. It won't be the same but the game is still there.

Even though I haven't played Demon's Souls since I finished it for the first time, I feel that sad feeling like when an MMO that you enjoyed is going away, almost like a little world is being destroyed. ;(
This game was truly something great. Thanks Atlus for supporting it for as long as you have. I'll try to jump on for a little bit before it shuts down.

So is it just the NA servers? What about the PC version that hasn't been around so long? If there is any way to still play this game the way it is meant to be, with -imo- one of the if not the, best ways of doing mp/coop, then I will.

Yea, sorry. I only got like 2 hours sleep last night so I guess I'm not fully with it, and a little worse off then I thought.
Well... that was embarrassing..

we should defenetly do something, like a petition, (taking the ceo of atlus hostage (HAHA Kidding)). no seriously the servers need to keep up, i can't live without my Demon's Souls pvp!
EDIT:
just saw some1 already began a petition (i hope there not to much separate petitions out there...):

Well you start a petition that offers to help pay for the server Hag you will get my signature. You have to remember Atlus probably doesnt get many new sales out of DS anymore at this point and they kept the servers up literally years longer than was originally planned.

I can't help but feel Demon's Souls will feel so empty, after this...
On one hand, it's kinda shocking that they're ending it "so soon." On the other, I expected Atlus to end it a year ago, so I can't say I'm really all that shocked. I guess it just hit me that nothing lasts forever.
So, for the next month and a half, I'll get as much Demon's Souls online play as I can and do all the stuff I've never really done before, like offer my help as a phantom or do PvP. I really took all that online stuff for granted, so I best try to take advantage of it before it goes away.

This was inevitable but that fact doesn't make it hurt any less. I can only hope my tax refunds return in time for me to buy a new ps3. I hope I can still find people to hook me up with dupes since I will lose all my accounts if I can't find a way to retrive my passwords. I can say honestly that no game will ever replicate the feeling I have had/have while playing DS online. Truly unique. Will never forget it.
