Like I said before, I wouldn't buy it if it was just a few of the PS2 SMT games, cause I already have them all except for Raidou Kuzunoha 2.
|
Yeah I'm only missing Raidou Kuzunoha 2.
Which 3 games by the way?

No, it wouldn't. And the people excited for GOW are idiots.
|
I'm excited for the God of War collection as i've never played the originals, but i've got original copies of most SMT so I probably wouldn't but it would give other people a chance to get into the series

I would be excited to see a compilation Shin Megaten game with improved graphics. I don't have a problem with the way the graphics are now, but that doesn't mean they can't be improved.
I will say though (in accordance with many of the post above me) I would rather if they had a whole "Shin Megami Tensei" collection where all the main branch games were collected onto one disk, and then maybe "Digital Devil Saga" collection where those 2 games got put on a one blue-ray. One for the Devil Summoner games would be nice too. I just think that collection initially listed is a bit hodgepodge.

Trophy/Achievement systems are a disease, not so much for single player experiences as online ones, but I miss the days when people set thier own goals for games instead of having some system of goals laid out for them.
Such systems seem to encourage more use of exploits and guides instead of exploration and discovery.
That aside, I'd rather just see digitally distributed versions so people can actually play these titles. Probably a ways off from happening, but I'd like some Nocturne on my PSP, I'm still fine with my PS2 version.

CHange it up and yeah, I would
Well I can't see them DOING this for quite some time. Doing fan projects like this requires them having enough knowledge of the platform hardware to do this kind of up conversion relatively cheap (i.e. next to 0 budget dollars) so that if they release it with no real turnout they aren't several million in the hole in dev time and dollars.
BUT
If they did it and developed it in a smart, economical way, yes I would likely buy it. I can't see them throwing their older/oldest games all onto a blue ray when those games stacked together wouldn't even fill an old school ps2 disc. Newest and more data heavy games I could see it making more technological sense. So for their oldest, I could see a cheap but viable digital download option(free if purchasing one of the collection Blue rays' as a promotion type thing).
Then stacking newer (ps2) series onto a disc, which would make sense, I would love to see it but with more added to the re-release. As you have seen from a lot of the posts, just throwing a game out there isn't going to convince fans(even hardcore ones, Bless you all!) to throw money at a game they've likely played before 3-4 times over to find and see EVERYTHING. What you need to do is step back and throw in new features. Yes it is likely a cheap way to do it , but look at the newer psp releases.
I looked at some of the video links posted for the 'Behind the Scenes' for the SMT: Nocturne games, and noticed they had a lot of stuff partially dev'd but unused. I could see them re-evaluating that and possibly taking those resources and adding them back now that there is technically "unlimited" time to get the project out. All SMT Nocturne on blue ray with higher FPS, AA, remastered soundtrack (just giving the audio a HD boost really) and the addition of bonus dungeons/content would likely fare a lot better with the fans, because it means hardcore fans will raise an eyebrow and say " whoa, stuff I haven't seen that was intended for the game, adds to the story/lore/gameplay and was originally supposed to be in the game but cut? Intriguing.... "
If they buy is still complete speculation.. but I bet the chances are a lot higher.
As well if they did so with the Persona games (which after doing re-releases already on the psp portable, would be a bit weird), they would have to do something similar. Since p3 already has the FES addition, they likely wouldn't need to add more content to something already rounded out. Since they remixed it a bit for the psp release, creating a "tweaked" ps3 version that allowed users to choose the "original game" or "generation 2" with M/F char's would be fine. And they have a whole TV series based after the game that, if they secured the rights to that, it could be included for an ultimate collector's edition. Then you get the base game with slight changes and a bonus of being able to snag and watch the tv series (for better or worse as I only watched about half of it and got horribly bored) in high def.
Some of the other series would likely have good selling methods as well, though I suspect newer games they've only released within the past 6-12 months wouldn't get the same treatment since that would just cut into their regular game sales a bit.

I'd rather them working on ports of the games we didn't get like Shin Megami Tensei 1 & 2, Devil Summoner, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers and Shin Megami Tensei: If... than HD versions of PS2 games that we did get.
Selfish me.

I have tried to play Persona 3: Fes on my HDTV/EDTV using component cables, and the end result is less than desirable. Probably because my 32"/46" LCD TVs are using Twisted Nematic panels, and that's why the colors look washed out. It looked much worse on my 46" as P3 had no progressive scan support to smooth out the jaggies. I ended up unplugging my PS2 and went back to my good ole SDTV which had much deeper colors and sharper graphics.
*For comparisons, I've also tried to play God of War 2 using component cables in 480p on my SDTV and my HDTV, and again the colors look washed out on my HDTV and I very much prefer to play God of War 2 on my SDTV, without progressive scan turned on. Progressive scan on my SDTV tends to darken the games.
Now if Atlus decides to remake Nocturne, P3 (whichever version, original, Fes or P3P) or P4 that takes advantage of HD graphics, I'll buy them all over again on a Blu-ray. This will almost certainly mean lots of work to remodel the graphical assets. However if the transition to Blu-ray involves just 720p/1080i/1080p support then I'm likely to pass, since I'm looking for remakes, not just digitally remastered versions that costs $40 per pop but only gives 5% improvements.

Yeah, Amazon.com is where to go to get these right now if you live in the US for sure. BUT, Amazon.com only ships to the US and other regional Amazon.com sites such as Amazon.ca for Canada don't carry the same stock, even though both countries use the same consoles and software releases.
Found this out when I was going to buy Devil Summoner 2 just ONE MONTH after it was released. Amazon.ca had none in stock and every individual seller was marking it up at least $25-30 over retail value.

No.
Why do we need the same games released over and over again.
You should have bought these games when they came out.
If you missed out, tough luck.
I would rather see Atlus focus on *new* content than rehashing the same stuff again and again.
And Amazon.ca is probably the worst online store I have ever dealt with.
Amazon.com screws Canada over by refusing to ship games there - and doesn't bother stocking Amazon.ca.

They could make a complication, something like Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner and NINE (Japanese exclusive made into English, if demanded.).

^ If we just get SMT: If... and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers I would be happy.
I hope Persona PSP was Atlus JP testing the the market to bring some ports of old games not a reaction to Persona 3's popularity.
I also hope that Atlus USA haven't lost the source key for Soul Hackers O_o.

You know what? I'm going to do a 180 on my take with GoW Collection. After playing through it, I find it is indeed more than just simple upscaling. There is some good effort on upgrading the models and this is contrasted every time a cutscene (old, unimproved CG) takes place, and the new HD content takes over during the actual game play segments.
So yes, sign me up if there is a SMT collection that sees similar efforts in upgrading! I would love Nocturne, P3 and P4 to be displayed in true HD.

I can understand w/DDS because its so rare.. but I'd love an exclusive Japan only collection that had Devil Summoner 1, 2, SMT 1, 2, If, P2:IS,.. I'd get those if they released them at all.
I don't think I'd buy an HD bundle as I dont have a PS3 or an HDTV... XD

It would be cool if this Collection did happen but it should have the NES Megami Tensei games on it as well and maybe the Last Bible games

I would def buy it. PS2 games look like crap on my LCD. Add some trophies, and a few little extras, would be a good lead-in to the next SMT games when they finally hit current gen consoles. They really should do 2, a SMT Nocturne/DDS set and a Persona 3/4 set.

Yes I'd definately buy that, even though I have a backwards compatible PS3 and the PS2 games here. Most of the PAL PS2 SMT games offer an NTSC option, but the rest (DDS1 and the Personas) is pretty annoying... runs slower and is pressed flat. That alone would be a reason to buy a PS3 collection for a little money. Also, Devil Summoner 2 wasn't released in Europe and my old chipped PS2 died on me a couple months ago, just when I was going to buy the game. If that was included in some kind of collection, that alone would be reason enough for me to buy it.
