The Hall of Heroes went up yesterday. That wasn't the big hype scheduled for today.

Considering that trying to recreate most any character that exists outside the 8-bit era in the 3D Dot editor is bound to be a similitude at best given the 16x16x16 work area, no. The key word is "original," and trying to recreate an existing character and then tweaking it a bit would not satisfy that.

That said, I have no idea who those characters are and probably wouldn't've known they were licensed, unless someone else brought it to my attention. So a similitude of them or other hypothetical characters might slip by us, depending on how obscure the character might be. But in cases where people might try to attempt this, it might not result so much in us rejecting it based on contest rules, so much as us simply not choosing it as a winner, since any recreation or similitude of a licensed character which would go unnoticed by the entirety of our staff (and loyal faithful willing to tip us off to such) probably wouldn't stand out enough amongst all the original entries to be chosen.

Btw, I'm not directing this specifically at you or trying to insinuate that you would be one to try and slip past the rules. You just brought up a good point and I figured I should throw this out there while it's relevant.

Nah Bartman, I'm not even gonna try out for your contest. I have zero creative skills when it comes to stuff like this. Basically I want my Falcom clones and I want them hard, I guess I'll just have to obtain/share them on another website/forum. (I fully understand your policy on not wanting to host licensed characters).

Mr Lol Forums.... will it ever be possible to submit characters say from Atlus or From games and have them added to the hall so long as it is accepted they will not be considered for the contest?

I'm not lol forums, but I can answer your question - unfortunately no. Even most Atlus games are owned by other developers, and as far as the ones that aren't, we can't run the risk of a user's creation being presumed to be an "official" representation of one of ours or From's characters.

We'd love nothing more than for you to be able to submit all your Trauma doctors and protagonists and Jack Frosts, but the legal ramifications of doing so outweigh the awesome.

Besides, then we'd have to host Mara, and nobody wants that.
