Did people stop making movies about bad things happening to american towns after 9/11? Are you seriously suggesting that production of all movies/shows/books/games/etc about bad things happening to Japanese places have come to a halt because of the earthquake/tsunami? get real man.
like really, do you think the people at atlus japan are thinking "WELP CAN'T RELEASE PERSONA 5 NOW BECAUSE IT FEATURES A TOWN BEING POSSESSED BY DEMONS OR WHATEVER. IT MIGHT REMIND PEOPLE OF THE EARTHQUAKE/TSUNAMI" no normal person is going to make that kind of connection. unless persona 5 SPECIFICALLY FEATURES AN EARTHQUAKE OR TSUNAMI IN ITS PLOT, i'd say they're good.
also, i don't understand this attitude of concern about persona becoming the "madden of rpgs" as if there is absolutely any sign of that happening at all. Persona(with the possible exception of p3) has done nothing but get better with each iteration and the time between release has actually widened from p3-p4 to p4-p5 (which is probably completely due to Catherine but still)
a lot of people on this forum think they're a lot smarter and more "tuned in" then they actually are.

I think new franchises are always preferable over sequels, so I choose Catherine. It's interesting to see a persona team game that is not an RPG, and more adult oriented in comparision of teen oriented persona saga.
How many japanese videogames you know with a cast of character's in their 30s? Pretty cool.

I want it to grow, to evolve, and to surprise me, as that's why each era of the Persona series has been enjoyable.
Catherine represents something I've never played before, and as such, is easily one of the most interesting games this year by far. As much as I love the Persona games, I want to try this new, bizarre puzzle-horror like you wouldn't believe.

My thoughts exactly. I rather not see P5 at least for another 1-2 years. I would really hate if P5 ends up being a P3/P4 rehash. It would be great it if Atlus do something new and different with the formula just like P3 did something different from P1/P2. Besides I would much rather see SMT5 (assuming SJ is SMT4) or a new Devil Summoner game.

pretty sure they're gonna stick with the successful p3 formula for p5. obviously i don't know for certain, but it would make sense for them to do so. the formula has pretty much defined what Persona is now. i honestly don't mind. p4 felt so different from p3 it didn't feel like a "rehash" at all.

I hope Atlus holds off on P5 for now. I'd much rather see a new proper SMT game like Nocturne and Strange Journey for the consoles.

pretty sure smt and persona are made by 2 different teams and the next game in both of those series are probably being made right now.

I wouldn't really know. I'm just familiar with who directs the games and that Meguro composes the soundtracks for most of the games. I certainly wouldn't mind if they had both in the works right now.

The thing is, it's fine for Persona 4. After all, Persona 1 and Persona 2 were similar in style while having changes that made them feel different from each other. I don't want that trend to go on for more than two games. Come up with a new way to have Persona 5 be interesting, and I'll be pleased. I mainly can't stand that the calender system in Persona 3 and 4 means the pacing of the story suffers.

So Persona 5 will be using the Catherine engine, right? That should be cool, but will it mean more cutscenes? I like the whole text, and a picture of the characters emotion thing. (If you know what i mean)
Anyway, I'm not surprised Persona 5 is winning.

I'm more curious as to what they'll do with the battle system, seeing as Catherine is a puzzle-action game, and Persona's turn-based.

Somehow, I feel Catherine is more like Atlus' way to test the in-house PS360 development waters; with that in mind, think of Catherine as a gauge for a potential Persona 5, similar to how Konami treats Suikoden Tierkreis as a gauge for a potential Suikoden VI.

Yeah if Catherine was them testing the waters with a new medium, then there is a great potential plethora of Atlus to come, because it means they have invested in a graphical engine to work with. After Catherine they can pop Persona 5, SMT games, or well.. just about anything.
Considering some of the new abilities Tri-Ace has shown possible on the current gen consoles in terms of physically based lighting rendered in realtime, I think these consoles still have a fair amount of life in them, even if we see the next xbox and nintendo HD systems hit in the next 18 months. So if Atlus holds onto this gen for at least 3 to 4 years they should do fine.
I still hold for p5, but I always did.

Given the option of something new or another sequel, we'd rather have more of the same sight unseen.

Pshaw, Fuyukaze. What's really irritating is following Atlus's Facebook updates. Every single announcement soon gets a "Stop wasting your time doing other crap and give us P5 already" comment--and people LIKE it! Now that's a sense of entitlement.
|
Don't feel too bad, Facebook is already way worse than GameFAQs could ever be at this point (and that's saying something). Just never take anything you see on Facebook seriously, and you'll be fine.

I haven't spent any time on Facebook but i can attest to how bad Gamefaqs has gotten...... The only thing on this site that is as bad are the Japanese VA only posters.
As for voting, i support Atlus games so while i will be saying Catherine then Persona 5 being a RPGer at heart i really want P5 first.

Yeah Yukichin, but i'm sure the engine will work fine with it. Most modern day games run on very versatile engines, for example the over-used 'Unreal Engine' has been used on all sorts of games.

I've voted for Persona 5, my reasoning being that the story of Persona 5 may be more in-depth with a larger cast of characters, and we all know there will be some world-ending catastrophe that the protagonist will be fighting against. While I CANNOT wait for Catherine, and fully expect it to make me shiver with glee as I hold the box prior to playing it, I would rather have a Persona 5.

Persona 5 vs. Catherine
Without a doubt, I'm in the Persona 5 camp, but that's not to suggest that I won't love Catherine. I have been all over Catherine since the first day Atlus announced it, and I look forward to the unique gameplay and mature content. However, Persona has been my favorite game series since I first played the imported original on PlayStation. It offers more depth, more personal meaning, and more replay value than any other RPG series in existence. Persona 3 and its multiple versions remains my favorite game of all time, but with Catherine and Persona 5 both having direct ties to Persona 3, I will definitely purchase both.

I don't really know how to compare them, because while they're made by the same company, they're totally different with different gameplay and themes. I'm very intrigued by the plot of Catherine and willing to give the gameplay a chance, much as I did with Heavy Rain, another plot-centric (non-Atlus) game. I'm a big Persona fan, but I'm hoping they'll push the envelope with P5.

Persona 5...
I'd rather have Persona 5, but I can wait. In the meantime, I have to finish Nocturne, DDS 1 & 2, and the Answer.
