Another person confirming the audio problem is in the finished product. Dialogue is way too quiet. Also, Midnight Venus' dialogue in her opening monologue tends to clip somewhat. That's the only instance of this happening so it's not a game breaker.
Also, I noticed that Lindsay and Martha's dialogue sounds somewhat tinny, and even quieter than the rest. Like their voices were recording with 70's recording equipment or something.

Honestly, I wouldn't give a damn if I didn't have asshole neighbors. It's now just hitting 9pm here & being forced into ####ing headphones is what is erking me. So, I decided to take a break.
Otherwise no, it's not a OMFGWHY thing. Just very, very annoying. Not as annoying as ijustine, but 'a bit' close considering my circumstances.

The only part of Midnight Venus' dialogue I noticed is a small clipping of a single word; she seemed to leave out a word in her sentence that was in the subtitles, but it wasn't anything major, and subs do that sometimes anyway.

Until it's fixed, try subtitles, perhaps?

Signed up just to post in this thread. GOOD LAWD! It's annoying, I have to turn up the damn volume so I can hear what the hell they're saying and then a cutscene comes and #### damn horse piss, it's way too loud. Yes I know there's subtitles but that's like trying to listen to music with the volume off and just reading the lyrics. Using headphones is a bitch too cause I have sensitive ears, I don't like having my ears feel like they got raped brutally due to the sudden loud volume.
I really hope there's a patch for this.

I notice it too, but it's not so bad on mine that I have to change the volume every time the game switches from in-game to animated cut-scenes.
I also noticed the voice clipping for Midnight Venus's opening monologue. It's like someone advances the dialogue right before she finishes her lines.

I was going to mention the problems with Venus' lines as well but it looks like you guys got to it before I did. It really does seem like when you press a button to manually advance someone's lines.
Apparently the balance gets better as you progress through the game from what I've read on other forums. I have yet to experience that though. Either way, I think it should be seamless the whole way through but it's not game breaking. I would still like to see this patched or something. Still loving the game!

People on other forums have been mentioning the sound issues. I got the game yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to play yet.
Aren't there supposed to be testers who play the game that would notice an error like this? That way they can report back to the team so they can fix it.

I would imagine they did most of the testing in-house or on site in a testing lab, which would use the system plus either headphones or basic desktop stereo speakers. Both of which wouldn't produce a lot of the issues we're noticing with digital surround sound or full sized/spaced speakers.
I may be totally wrong though, never seen the facilities Atlus uses for game testing...

So I fired the game up o n my xbox 360 and tried it a few ways. I tried playing the game up to nightmare 2 using the dolby digital 5.1 out, and then exited the game, swapped to the basic pcm 48k signal (which is stereo/pro logic) and tested the levels for the dialogue and all with that.
As best I can tell, especially in the nightmare levels, they used a fakey acoustic echo for the sound, likely to make the area sound more hollow and creepy, but the problem is it effects all the dialogue, but not the music. And the music blares at spots and actually completely drowns out the voices entirely. The swaps between anime cutscenes and regular graphics scenes is slight, so a bit more balancing could help that along too.
Considering the disparity, I actually wish they patched it with a feature in the "settings menu" where you could either adjust the levels for the music and voices/sound effects, or possibly put a few options for the sound out put in the game (stereo/DD/dts/Pro Logic II). Ideally they'd add that PLUS a setup screen similar to Resonance of Fate where you could tweak and set your speaker placement so everything balanced right... but I won't expect that much added after-the-fact.
I also noticed, for whatever reason, the loading screens were shorter running the game in PCM stereo

Using a basic, maybe a few years old TV here, but yeah, I'm having the same basic problems as everyone else. Its nothing that turning the volume up/down during cutscenes can't fix, but it's still something you'd hope they would fix.

Does anyone know if Atlus is aware of this issue, has anyone asked them on twitter? And has that person gotten a reply?

This issue is one of those rare types that they couldn't have not been aware of, especially given the type of game it is. For them, right now, the sound issue isn't much an issue. It's the matter that they shipped out a broken product knowing good and well the issues before hand. Silence is pretty good damage control for that. A bit of DoDonPachi: Dai Ou Jou BLEX nostalgia for me.
Lucky them, they aren't catching near enough grief over the issue. I guess that's to be expected in an age where the majority of consumers in the Western market say "Cool game, hope X gets patched!" instead of "Hey Atlus, I have $60 with your name on it, get it fixed and we'll do business." If Atlus Japan would have done this with the original version, it probably wouldn't have been as pretty.

They however were not aware of the issue UNTIL the demo was released and people started complaining about it. As it didn't happen on the japanese version. So I'm unsure of how people justify being down atlus's throat. Honestly why are people making such a big deal about this? Does it threaten your life to pick up your controller and adjust volumes a few times? Is that life consumming? Hell if catherine had no audio or something I understand the grief, but TOO LOUD? TOO LOW? NO,WOE BE ME.KEEL ME NAO. ~_~

Yeah.. it isn't a deal breaker or "oh gawd I can't stand to play the game now" kind of issue. I mostly cited the issue in hopes Atlus was genuinely interested in finding a resolution(as was cited by a mod earlier, the thread was strictly for reporting sound bugs/issues and not for any other crap).
If nothing is ever done, oh well. I can play the game with little to no audio adjustment(and only mild neighbor annoyance) in most cases. I am disappointed to see a issue like this make it past QA and onto the open market, I guess I have been lucky enough to rarely see sound bugs in games . So seeing it here in what I generally think is a well crafted but imperfect tech demonstration makes me worry a bit. But just a tiny bit.

I know that it's rare, this day and age, but some people just aren't OK with buying half-assed products. There is a difference between making mistakes and half-assing. This issue is nothing but shotty work. I don't go to work to release shotty products to my buyers. I expect the same from others. Having low standards benefits no consumer, it's what got us here to begin with.

I'd hardly call an audio issue of this caliber "half-assed". I could see if mouths weren't synced up or if there was no sound at all but this is merely an imbalance between scene audio. Not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

I really want to 'knee ahead of time' myself, might improve my jogging or let me time travel. I 'didn't experienced' a change from the demo myself.
Also, why did you have to provide me an image of one of the most twisted videos I've ever seen online Al, ugh. XP
I think the thing is, it depends on what type of sound system you have & whether you have neighbors or a gf/wife/children/et cetera to be concerned with. I don't think this would cause sale loss considering the fact that not everyone plays a demo first, it's barely been released & there are much worse issues most of us have even experienced which could have been pretty serious.
Either way people, we really need to just focus on reporting this issue and all those having it, let's do that shall we?
Anyway, I just came back in this thread as I had wanted to report that it did follow me all through the first ending I just got, but it was fixable temporarily by about 10 levels down and up on my home theater system volume which goes up to level 50. Talking with booming however doesn't fair as easily, & having to silent film it is just not preferred.

Never, Al. This isn't a fight thread, it's a thread for people having this issue. I wasn't being as sarcastic as I was reminding you to proof read once in a while, girl.
I never said that, & it wasn't even implied. What was implied I already said, & it didn't have to do with you or me, other than my entire purpose of coming back into the thread starting with "Anyway,".
I've really gotta know, are you even old enough to drink, girl? Also, is your bite as bad as your bark, because I bite back, hard.

No; it's impossible that is the case, if it was even possible that was the case, then that makes the situation all the more worse. It means they didn't care enough about their work to check it. As for the issue not showing up, again, impossible, unless again, they didn't check their work. Not checking work is poor workmanship and shows a blatant disregard for the quality of the work and too consumers.

What baffles me is your blatant hypocrisy. Why pay or purchase a half assed product? It was in the demo. If you knew ahead of time and still chose to purchase then stfu with the pointless complaints and get your head out of your ass.

Al, have you ever not been a troll? Just about every time I read you it's to put another down or name call with impunity. Once in a while, I see something else out of you, but it's quite rare.
If I were trolling you I'd have returned a not so nice name to to your female behavior, which by far, is quite fitting.
They've been funny to others, but I certainly wouldn't expect you to find humor in what so obviously burns you.
Woof, woof, more girl.

@Al Told off? What are you going on about? You typed like a little girl, I called you out on it, & you just can't handle it. I don't need to call you anything, you've just made it clearer.
How many times do I have to remind people if you don't care, you don't respond. It's really simple stuff. XD
Same goes for you sweet cheeks, don't like it, don't respond.
@EKG Gawd, I would have to do something ridiculously drastic if this moronic little girl was someone I ended up in a rival-mance with. XD
