A message to Atlus from KOF fans
I think Atlus needs to step up their game on promoting this game, especially to the fighting game community.
I heard finding the PAX booth for this game was next to impossible, and was in the farthest back possible, and wasn't even listed in the games at the show. WTF Atlus ? This game IS NOT going to sell itself, and word of mouth is NOT enough----not with fighting games. RPGs? Sure yeah, because there is a bigger audience for those, but if you can't get the hardcore behind a fighter, then the casual won't even care.
So here is my idea. Iplaywinner.com has been promoting this game for you like gangbusters over the last few months. They stream every other Sunday ranbat tournaments from an arcade of this game. Haunts who runs the site is in love with the game, and even he was sad it took him forever to find the booth at PAX to play it. So what's my idea?
Simple, get Iplaywinner.com to host a big tournament venue for you Atlus and have them stream it. Iplaywinner and Team Spooky are the ones who streamed a little tournament you may have heard of called EVO, so rest assured you are getting top quality comprehension in that regard. With the tournament just give them a $5,000 prize pool (should be nothing for Atlus' budget for advertising and would be better spent than a few ads on no name sites), and have Atlus show up there too. Atlus could do a character reveal there, give away posters and t-shirts, and then let the tournament play out for itself.
Big names would show up for a chance at $5,000 on the west coast. You'd see your Justin Wongs, your F.champs, your Gootecks', and Mike Ross', etc. They'll get hands on, and see what it is haunts is in love with, and if they give you a thumbs up, the thousands of people who like these people will be on board with buying the game.
Do this for the west coast, and if it's a success, then do the same for Japan, and maybe even the east coast, and Europe. These few small tournaments in the few days left is the perfect ticket to win over the fighting game community, and to reach much more people about this game.
Also, do some character teaser trailers, to get people guessing on what the next character will be. This will get people talking on message boards and help build a little more buzz for the game.

Dear Atlus,
note that this message was not written by me but from another member of this forum
(Dusperz) who cannot create topics because of posting restrictions.
Since i completely agree with him (save for the Japan and Europe part, thats SNKP and RSG duty, respectively) i decided to be the one to post this as a stand alone thread that you might get to read, hopefully.

You may have an idea here. Though I really think the advertisement of this game is already beyond the lack of advertisement the series used to get, over here. I also think anybody that is or was a KOF fan is already in line to pick up this title. The hype from the Arcade version alone already pretty much got the attention of just about anybody who loved KOF.
On the other hand, this tourney idea may bring upon even more attention from those who were previously unaware about the goodness of KOF games. A good KOF game, that is. To a degree, KOF XII kind of put a bit of bad publicity for it given that KOF games have always been seen (but not advertised well) as games with good content, and to suddenly see one which is quite minimal for which a lot of folks may have tried it as their first KOF game might have turned some off. The unprecedented advertisement Atlus is doing, for the series, is helping to turn that around, and a tournament would tell the less-informed fighting community that KOF is here and in a big way. And also that KOF is a game of substance (again). One thing often missing from KOF games that SF has done lately, was show people what advanced combos and tricks are in the game.
A lot of us know them, and execute them a lot. But we also don't get much view from the existing videos that are published, due to them being just Youtube uploads and such. Dedicated fighters may run into those. Tourneys, however, get a lot more attention because it gets attention from those who typically don't go looking around for combo videos. Even in the states, I see some very talented KOF players which don't have dedicated tourneys to get much publicity.
Though their appearance at Otakon, this year, was priceless. Atlus was doing a great promotion being there because a lot of East Coast KOF fanatics go to Otakon. (Sadly I missed it because I was filming that weekend, but I so wanted to go just for Atlus' booth)

yes there are many ways to promote and Atlus doesn't need to spend money to make real quality promotions happen and spread more awareness and hype!
Yes marketing strategy can really work and make anything appear positive and inviting to the masses! Look how the best best selling stuff out there get great promotions.
and even niche titles can sell a lot when backed by great promotions in various forms!
free to use sources widely viewed like youtube and facebook can be 10000000 times more effective than TV commercials and magazine ads!!!!
it all depends how you promote it and stuff.

@ Neo Duke: I always have known that KOF's best players are in Japan, but where did South America came about when it comes to KOF?
@ Remzi: Where did that quote originate from? or, did you write it yourself?

KOF's top players are from Japan, followed by other asian countries, followed by Mexico, followed by USA / UK, followed by places nobody cares about, and way in last is the rest of South America.

Honestly, almost all of the good players I've fought at KoF on GGPO have, so far, been Brazilian. However, that's from personal experience. There are certainly a lot of good KoF players all over, no doubt about it.
Nonetheless, back on topic. If the series is going to gain mainstream attraction in America again - in my opinion - it's going to need serious hype at anime convention gamerooms. Anime Weekend Atlanta is highly recommended.

Which proves you're braindead. Japan leads the world at all significant fighters, and a few others asian countries follow closely behind. Go ahead and check the uploads of game3talk though. There are players from all over the world, and the most prominent are those from Japan.

The only notable GGPO player is Dakou.
Anime conventions are insignificant. Unless the game was "King of Pedophiles : Raping 13 year old girls", they won't care about it. They're all obsessed with small little girls.

It's funny, how one of the most important issues got sidetracked by which country plays KoF better! If someone got an idea or something to say about the original post please state it so we can discuss it, otherwise it's not that important to know whose better, whats important is how to get KoF fans and newcomers to support XIII and what atlus have to do to get them!

It's Capcom fighters that most Americans seem to be into from my experience, and definitely not King of Fighters (sadly). One sad hint of this is that at conventions people sometimes call me "Terry Bogard, that guy from Street Fighter". And also that almost no one in gaming circles around here even seems to know who SNK is. I'm hoping King of Fighters XIII changes that.
However, my earlier point still stands. The anime convention crowd tends to contain some of the most avid gamers I'm aware of. A lot of people I know look forward to conventions for the game room / arcade almost as much as anything else at the convention. As such, SNK and Atlus really need more presence at conventions, especially considering the aforementioned lack of knowledge of SNK amongst that community. It would really raise awareness. I hit up a lot of conventions around North and South Carolina and would be happy to help as needed.

It's not about promoting the game, or promoting the best players, it's about promoting sales. It doesn't matter how good this game is to Atlus if it doesn't sell (well, given that it's Atlus, I do think they care about the quality, but most companies won't, and sales is the primary factor)
Also, they may not have the rights for South America, unsure.
The receptions of top players can do plenty to promote a game, especially since the FGC is more celebrity driven that before. Players like Juicebox and Justin could do wonders for promoting the game to hardcores. The anime fan crowd does wonders for casuals.
And let's stop the country bashing. This isn't the world cup- we're not going to have the Mexican military invade Japan over this, settle this at EVO or something. You're not going to settle anything by becoming flame warriors.

Promoting the game is very close to promoting sales.
Thatīs the idea, dude. To take advantage of the best players.
Since Asia is SNKīs territory and Europe is RSGīs, Atlus should promote the game with tournaments in America but since the american community is not that popular in KOF, itīs better to move to other countries like Mexico or Brazil, where the players are really good, way better than Justin for example. He is good in SF and MvC, but not that good in KOF.
The hype with games like MvC3 and SF is because the players are very good, a lot of high level playing. What happens if you replace players like Justin or Daigo with beginners?
The casuals must be lured with high level playing. If not, they will think the game is boring or things like that.
And that will also help the sales too.

As shown by the side events at EVO, USA players can compete with those from Mexico. Therefor, they're just below. Your precious South America is way behind though.

Better than any Mexican player

I agree with you alstien, it is somewhat about promoting the sales but as Mr.Karate stated promoting the game is as close as you can get to promoting the sales. Reception of top players isnt a great option because most of them arent known to the mainstream public for example the top players of SF III 3rd strike arent known to the public only celebrities such as justin wong and daigo (thats in 3rd strike) which are known. You need celebrities such as Justin Wong to promote the game, because as some of you said earlier many people do follow them and they hold their opinions in high regards. Yes' the fans should try their best to promote the game in anyway they can but Atlus should do better; as stated before they should get to those celebrities and make them play KoF XIII(one way to do this is making a beta tournament in their area). Sadly KoF wont be received so easily by most people, because KoF is a very high level game, its not the least bet noob friendly like SFIV and MvC3, and people nowadays like it like that for whatever stupid reason they have; thats why they sell. If Atlus want this game to sell then they will have to try harder and the fans should try harder; Atlas now have the support of the fans what they need is the mainstream.
I wish all the best for the best fighting game of this generation; it is the best fighting game of its generation no doubt about it!

Buzz is growing. Many of my gamer friends know me as the SNK fan, and the other night, during a gamer party, many of them asked me about KoF XIII. I know its not much, but its proof that a buzz is generating by word of mouth. And many asked me if it was like XII. I told them to look for themselves, but generally, no, its a bigger, better game.

Hi I'm Mexican and I think this game should have more publicity in my country. Too many people waiting for this game here in Mexico but with a little more publicity will have higher sales.
(sorry but my English is bad)

maybe they have to be obnoxious with their promotions.
You know how those other games release informative trailers left and right.
There has yet to be trailer that highlights all the modes and options, including color edit. Put that on gametrailers front page and it would draw lots of attention.
also it's about time for a new character reveal (disk or DLC) that isn't a EX version of someone.

Like? At PAX their booth wasn't listed, and it was at THE farthest back possible AKA impossible to find. People who went there FOR KoF, couldn't even find it until a day later.
Trailers they've put out? 30 second long at best unhype cuts of basic moves on gametrailers. No one gives a crap. They need to be longer or have some kind of commentary to explain the character. Think like how Seth Killian does character stuff for gametrailers/gamespot and he'll discuss their playstyle while showing off some of their moves for about 2 minutes. Someone from Atlus could do the same.
That's about it. I can't think of anything Atlus is doing to promote this game. Aside from announcing it, and what I mentioned it's nothing but crickets. They put in WAY more promotion for Catherine than what they've done for KoF so far. Now that I think about it I don't remember them doing a bang up job for Demon's Souls either... seems Atlus only goes out of their way to promote their OWN in house games, and the ones they just help bring west are left to fend for themselves.
Hopefully the publishers for the other countries do a better job, because with a month and some days to release, Atlus has dropped the ball, and if they don't step it up soon, then outside of the hardest of the hardcore, this game will flop and bomb both commercially and we'll be left with another SNK game with 12 people online trying to match make. :/

i wouldn't say A, since, like i said on top, the post is not mine but i agree with it completely. That makes at least two of us. So its legit to say from Kof fanS.
And based on the replies in this thread i'd say at least another 2 or 3 people are liking that guy's idea .
