Yesterday I checked my grandfather out of the hospital and brought him back home, and have since been gently arguing with him about how he's not allowed to use the stairs yet.

My mother is coming back to the States today for a bit, though, so as of this afternoon somebody else gets to gently argue with him about not using the stairs, and I can get back to writing the paper I would've been writing this week if this fiasco hadn't been eating my time.

Tested it the day it arrived and OMG it is soooo good...

The rest of the month's cash went to a transmission flush'n'fill for the wife's car along with inspection and an oil change. BAM $211 gone.. yick.

**Edit** OOPS forgot I also grabbed This, more memory for my main computer. In addition I am getting a x64 version of Win 7 from a friend who bought his copy with 3 licenses and doesn't need one. Will be interesting to see how much of a different it'll make when it's all setup again.

Nice. I was planning on getting one, but after I saw the nonsense with the memory cards, and my DS Lite breaking, I went for the 3DS. I'll just wait out a decent bundle or value pack or something.

I tend to wait until there's an exclusive that I want. For the PSP it was FFT: War of the Lions. So far no must-own games on the Vita for me.

To be honest, the system looks really nice, but I'd like to give less money to Sony. I may end up waiting both for a good exclusive and a good used Vita deal.

PSVita - $350 = Not worth it.
3DS - $350 (when I got it) = Totally worth it.



But in all seriousness, the PSVita has nothing that interests me... yet. It may come up with something, but the memory card price gouging will have to stop first. Which it won't, I fear.

It would help if Sony would use a more widespread and cheaply-manufacturable format instead of trying to shove their own proprietary crap down everyone's throats.

To me, they will both be worth it when the prices go down and more games that I want are out. I'm always close to being 5 years behind in gaming because I will only get some stuff DMF1, and rarely new consoles. I have too many psp, ps3, wii and ds games to beat still!

Couldn't agree more, JC.

It's not that they went proprietary, even. It's that they went proprietary when there are plenty of suitable formats they could have just used.

When I come to expect a company to try and use proprietary tech for everything they don't need proprietary tech for, it just paints a bad picture of their business model.

Why cripple a system with fantastic potential with crap like that? Ugh...

EDIT: Apparently, this is why. Guy Longworth of Sony has this to say in response to the question: "What was the thinking behind going with proprietary memory cards and the pricing behind them?"

"There are many different types of memory out there, and what we have is a very high-end piece of flash memory that comes in an extraordinarily small size. What we're trying to do is make sure that the gamer has the best possible experience and the proprietary memory we think gives gamers the best possible experience because we can very much control that memory and make sure it's the highest possible quality."

Memories of a Critical Thinking lecture using the Architect from the Matrix as an example of people using verbose garbage as an 'answer' to a question while not genuinely answering the question suddenly comes to mind... I wonder why!

Hell, if the western release had not just happened, I'd be saying it's in a pretty screwed situation just judging from the Japanese sales.

I also find it silly that they're pushing extra expenses on the consumer who probably can barely afford the console in the first place. The newest technology is expensive, I get it. Maybe they just assume their biggest market is kids whose parents will fork over the dough for a system and all it's accessories.

^We can analyse past consumer trends until we're blue in the face. I stopped fangirl ranting about where a system or game series was going to go a long time ago. If I can afford it and I see a game out for a new system that I like, I'll get it eventually. Beyond that, to me, any speculation is pointless. I have other things I'd rather put my mental energy into.

You can say a company screwed up and will fail all you want but you're not their only customer.
